Our First Blog Post

Hello Everyone!

My name is Callum, the Owner of Yarm Butchers!

This is the first Blog Post that I have ever written (so please bear with me). I want to look back through the last 24 months, from having a dream, to creating the start of its reality.

It's been over one year since we arrived on Yarm High Street! But I want to go further back to early 2013, when I noticed that there hadn't been a butcher on the High Street of Yarm for almost two years (at the time). I knew that at the age of just 22, at the time, that I wouldn't find it easy and yes, very daunting, but with 6 years in the butchery trade I had a strong foundation to build on.

I was told about Five Lamps Organisation by a friend, who explained that they gave free advice and support to help local expiring entrepreneurs. I went to a couple of workshops and loved the enthusiasm that the mentors had in helping people like me.

December 2013, myself, family & friends started on renovating 93 High Street! An old neglected Fruit n Veg Shop. A lot of blood, sweat & tears was put in to making the shop what it is today.

Β

I pride myself on making it my project, to create an authentically quirky butchers, with a welcoming atmosphere. To have the whole family help me and this business venture was great and I cannot thank them enough!

March 6 2014, we opened the doors to 'Yarm Butchers' (probably the scariest day of my life so far), but with the assistance of my brother, cousin and close family friends we made it through the weekend! Since then we have expanded the business with our own e-commerce site, offer a great range of Exotic meats, made it into the local news papers, and recently won an BNBA (Best New Business Award)!

This is all only the beginning, yet we have achieved a lot within the first year! It doesn't stop here either, keep up to date with everything going on by following our social pages, this blog or sign up to our news letter.

Thank you for taking the time to read my first blog!

Callum

Hi Callum I’ve just read your blog
It was interesting reading through the history of how you came to Yarm and you clearly have a good team of supporters.
For me it’s been nice to have the local facility to buy good quality products from somebody who also appreciates good health and is willing to put together different things to fit in with a healthy diet, such as the 5% fat steak mince which is a great value buy too. I also love the fact that you can be so creative with chicken, the chicken and sage sausages and Italian style meat balls are so tasty.
Well done Callum. I’m sure your future in Yarm is very bright.

It was lovely to see the preparation of the shop on your blog and see the family behind the scenes. I’m so happy to find you as a butcher to sell me good quality meats. You are a rare breed. Bad news for me (not really) all the family love your meats hence the weird orders I ask for. Thank you and wish you a great future. My first and probably last blog!
